Our Story
Jean-Louis. Goldsmith. DESIGNER.
It began in a small mining town in South Africa. Krugersdorp, where some of the deepest gold mines are found, the parents of Jean-Louis, Louis and Donne’, purchased a jewelry shop in 1986. The plan was for Louis to bookkeep and Donne’ to manage the business while the jewelry manufacturing would be done by the original owner, who was a goldsmith.
Unfortunately, the goldsmith decided to move away and Louis had no choice but to start making commissioned custom jewelry pieces himself. He self-taught from several books in only a matter of weeks. Inspired by his father, Jean-Louis started to stop by the shop after school every day and learn his own craft.
In 1990, Jean-Louis moved to Johannesburg to start his own business in custom design and fine jewelry manufacturing. He spent years building a reputation for excellent workmanship, creative design, and impeccable customer service.
Jean-Louis and his family made the decision to move to Canada in 2012 where they were welcomed with open arms. Residing in Calgary, Alberta, this would be the start of Aston’s Jewelry.
